Overview
 
As a multimedia intern you will play an important role in the development of the organization’s visual identity. You will work on developing and executing engaging materials for our website, social media channels, newsletters, and print. Depending on your interest and skills you can either choose to focus on the area of social media or graphic design.
 
Responsibilities
As a multimedia intern your tasks might include, but are not limited to:
 
Social media:
Assisting the social media officer in preparing, posting and monitoring content on
 
Facebook and Twitter:
  • Assisting in tracking the growth of our social media presence.
  • Creating strategies in order to increase our fan-base and interactions.  
  • Exploring opportunities to use other social media platforms.
  • Assisting with the live coverage of conferences, lectures, and other events.
  • General (web) administration tasks.
 
Graphic design:
  • Taking, editing and uploading photo material for the website and social media channels.
  • Producing audio and video material for the website and social media channels (pre-production, recording, editing, distribution).
  • Designing posters/flyers and other promotion material.
  • Making infographics/prezi presentations.
  • General (web) administration tasks.
 
Qualifications
 
Social Media:
 
Required:
  • Educational background in communication, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with mainstream social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Tech and Internet savvy.
Desired:
  • Proficiency in written Arabic.
  • A general knowledge of Arab/West and Muslim/Christian relations.
 
 
Graphic design:
Required:
  • Educational background in design, communication, marketing or related field.
  • Strong proficiency in the Adobe Suite (particularly Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator).
  • Strong photo, video and audio editing skills.
  • Knowledge of design for web and print media.
  • Demonstrated creativity.
  • Serious attention to detail.
 
Desired:
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and/or Drupal is very beneficial.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Arabic are a plus.
 
Eligibility
  • Applicants must commit to work for at least 2 consecutive months. Those who can commit to a longer internship period will receive priority.
  • Applicants must be available to work at least 35 hours per week during weekdays between 8:30am and 5:30pm. The Egyptian weekend is Friday and Saturday.
 
Benefits
 
All internships are unpaid. However, the cost of living in Cairo is relatively inexpensive and CAWU can provide the applicant with a letter requesting funding if necessary. Depending on the university there are possibilities for the intern to receive college credit. All interns will receive a recommendation letter after they successfully complete their internship.
 
Furthermore, intern participation in cultural activities such as lectures, workshops, or seminars can account for up to 10% of the agreed working hours, provided they relate to intercultural dialogue and seek to give participants a deeper mutual understanding of the Arab world and the West. Such activities can be organized individually or by management.
